37 Field Squadron RE Oldboys Association was founded by 10 former Sappers of all ranks, who had served with the squadron from the 1950s to the 1970s and beyond. The inaugural meeting of the Oldboys Association took place in November 2007 in the German city of Paderborn, during a week long visit to the squadron by the 10 original members, following an invitation from the then squadron commander, Major Andrew Devey, and his SSM, WO2 Matt Graves.

At that inaugural meeting, chaired by Major Devey, amongst many other matters on the agenda, the members voted to initiate purchase and maintain a suitable trophy, to be awarded annually to the “Best Young Sapper” in the squadron.
The trophy decided upon is in the form of a large traditional Scottish Quaich in fine English pewter.
This award is accompanied by a smaller individual quaich, which is presented as a personal keepsake to the annual winner of the “Oldboys Trophy”. The agreement states that “the squadron will be responsible for ensuring that the winner's rank, name and number, together with the year of award, will be enscribed upon the “Oldboys Trophy” by the squadron. Whilst theOldboys Asssociation remains responsible for the provision of, and the enscribing of the winner’s details on the individual award.

This latter item is then despatched to the charge of the squadron commander, together with sufficient monies, to enable the winner to invite everyone serving with the squadron, to take a drink from the “Oldboys Trophy”, to his or her health, and to the health of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. -  "Deoch-slàinte na Ban-righ"

Furthermore, the Oldboys Association will, so far as is possible, maintain regular contact with the squadron, and shall from time to time, and at the squadron’commander’s discretion, and by his invitation, arrange for individuals or parties of association members to visit the squadron at their home in Paderborn, or wherever they may be currently based.

The 37 Squadron RE – Oldboys Association will from time to time, also arrange to hold reunions.
Serving members of the squadron are encouraged to attend, and are made welcome to all such reunions.
These reunions/get-togethers may not necessarily be held annually, and the location of which shall be transient and shall be decided upon by membership vote. The locations of reunions should reflect the geographical spread of the membership throughout the U.K.
